Dog creatures

The canine creatures could be described as raw dogs distilling an essence of dog.

Each has its own very peculiar primeval character and strong presence.

All the work is hand built in T-material or grogged clay that is then layered and painted with coloured slips.

Some dogs are burnished at the leather hard stage and often pebbles are applied to the body.

After a biscuit firing to 1000 degrees, the dogs are pit fired in wood, dung, sawdust and other organic materials over a period of 48 hours. The deep earthy mysterious surfaces are created by the fire.

"Morag MacInnes's ceramic dogs portray human animalistic characters as much as they represent dogginess. They smile, they bare their teeth, they turn their heads upside down but what do they mean by it? Behind it all they are moved by raw animal drives. They have another agenda, a malevolence. Choose your dog carefully. You think you have your number, think you recognise the character, but that is only the surface. Don't turn your back on them."
